Most people associate orthodontic treatment with conventional braces. It's a classic choice! But here's the great news - today's technology and design allow conventional braces to be lighter, more comfortable, and smaller than ever before.
Conventional braces use metal brackets bonded to the front of each tooth and anchored together with an archwire. Archwires have been designed with shape memory to apply gentle pressure throughout the duration of treatment.
You can choose different coloured elastics (o-rings) during every appointment, making traditional braces so much fun to wear. These elastics are placed around each bracket to secure the archwire in place.
This depends on your orthodontic requirements, and every case is different; however, it typically takes 12 to 24 months to complete your treatment with traditional braces.

Self-ligating braces make use of the bracket-and-archwire system. Brackets are fitted to the surface of your teeth and an archwire slots straight into them instead of needing elastics to hold it in place.
However the brackets have a sliding mechanism, meaning the archwire can respond as your teeth move. As a result, self-ligating braces can straighten your teeth more efficiently and comfortably.
Every orthodontic case is different. But the most common time range for self-ligating braces is 12 to 24 months. You can expect self-ligating braces to work a bit faster than traditional brackets.
