Lingual braces are one of the most discreet orthodontic treatments available. While they still use the bracket and archwire technology that conventional braces do, lingual braces sit on the back surface of your teeth, so no-one will notice you’re having treatment.
How do lingual braces work?
Lingual braces are made up of brackets and archwires, much the same as conventional braces are. However, the key difference is they’re attached to the inside surface of your teeth. Each bracket is custom-made for your teeth to ensure they fit your mouth properly and work to get the results you’re hoping for. Because the braces sit close to your tongue, it can take a little while for your mouth to get used to them. This can cause your speech to be affected, but after three or four days you should have adapted.
How long do lingual braces take?
This depends on your orthodontic requirements and every case is different; however, you can expect lingual braces to take anywhere between 12 and 24 months.
Who are lingual braces for?
Lingual braces tend to be popular among our adult patients. Because they are virtually invisible to the outside, they don’t impact on your appearance making them a great treatment option for busy, working professionals.
